Results of the competition “The child victim of the Holocaust”

On Monday 27th March the results of the competition “The child victim of the Holocaust” were announced, according to the assessment of the relevant committee. The winners of the competition which is conducted by the General Secretariat for Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs in co-operation with the Jewish Museum of Greece, will take part in a special training programme organised by the Jewish Museum of Greece which includes an educational visit to the Auschwitz Museum.

During school year 2016-2017, there were 75 valid entries from 37 schools of the Regional Directorates of Attica and Central Macedonia and the Secondary Education Directorates of Aitoloakarnania, Arcadia, Evritania and Chania.

Five prizes will be awarded to the students of the 1st Vocational Senior High School of Ampelokipi in Thessaloniki, the 7th General Senior High School of N. Smyrni in Athens, the EXPERIMENTAL General Senior High School of Ag. Anargyroi in Athens and the Mantoulidis General Senior High School. Additionally, 25 honourary awards will be awarded to 21 schools. Altogether, 82 First and Second class Senior High School students will take part in the training programme which will be completed with the debriefing meeting that will be held at the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs.

The General Secretariat for Religious Affairs would like to congratulate the students who took part in the competition, the teachers who effectively supported the entire effort, and especially the children’s parents.

Mr G. Kalantzis, the Secretary General of Religions, referring to the desecration incidents against the monuments of the Holocaust of the Greek Jewry in Arta and Kavala, stated: “no matter how many times they are destroyed, we will rebuild them”.
