Memo on the seventh seminar for teachers
“TEACHING ABOUT THE HOLOCAUST IN GREECE”

INTRODUCTION

The Jewish Museum of Greece has already organised and conducted six seminars for primary schoolteachers, secondary schoolteachers and museum educators on Teaching about the Holocaust in Greece. Five of these seminars were held in Athens (2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010) and one in Thessaloniki (2005). Τhese seminars were attended by large numbers of teachers, and also by representatives of ministries, state organisations and institutions. The seminars have been widely acclaimed as constructive and successful.

FRAMEWORK

This year, the Jewish Museum of Greece organised the seventh seminar under the title ‘Teaching about the Holocaust in Greece’. The seminar took place in Athens, at the premises of the JMG, at 39, Nikis st., on the 1st and 2nd December. The seminar was once again held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs, it was partly supported financially by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs an the Jewish Community of Athens. Important publications were offered to the teachers by Mr. Alexandros Simha, the Central Board of Jewish Communities in Greece and the JMG also donated their publications. This year the seminar was attended by 74 educators. They were addressed by twelve specialists from various relevant fields (historians, educators, university professors etc.)
